Church Life
Special Events &
Activities
Cumbernauld Old has a
number of activities that take place monthly, quarterly or annually.
The dates for these vary, so please keep an eye on our 'What's On' page for up-to-date
details.
The list below should give you an idea of some of activities in which
we are involved.
|
| Sacrament
of Holy Communion
|
|
Celebrated
on the first Sunday of March, June, September and
December at services in the Parish Church at 11.00am and 6.30pm.
You
don't need a special invitation card to attend, nor do you need to be a
member of the Church of Scotland or any other church - the Lord's
Supper is open to all. At the evening service non-alcoholic wine is
used. |
|
|
| The
Rainbow Service |
|
Held
annually on a Sunday afternoon in mid-December for families who have
been bereaved or suffered loss, and who find the 'jolly' side of
Christmas difficult.
During the service, worshippers are
invited to tie a ribbon to a bare tree in memory of a loved one. As the
ribbons are tied to the tree it becomes a colourful reminder of hope in
the darkness.
The tree remains in the church until Easter (or until the clocks go
forward the following spring). Every individual ribbon is then untied
and kept until it is sewn into a permanent reminder, such as a banner,
etc. |

Churches Together |
|
Cumbernauld
Old is a member of Cumbernauld Churches Together and takes part in
Bible Studies and reflections around the times of Advent and Easter as
well as services held during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. We
also participate in the World Day of Prayer, the Good Friday 'Walk of
Witness' and the annual 'Festival of Light service at Christmas-time.
We also have our own worship services on Maundy Thursday (the Thursday
before Easter) and Good Friday. |
