Church Magazine: Summer Fete - 5 June 2010

Who can forget the 5th June this year? What a glorious day!

The weather was beautiful, warm and sunny and just perfect for our Annual Summer Fete in the Manse Garden. Queuing began long before the gates were opened, which was a great sign, and with the amazingly powerful, and magnificently maintained, vehicles of Scotia Wings Motorcycles all lined up just inside we were all set for a great day's entertainment. They put in a great day's work, taking kids up and down Roadside (all for free) and we are greatly indebted to them.

The Fete was officially opened by the Scottish actor Ron Paterson who arrived on the pillion of once of the Scotia Wings motorcycles. The stallholders, who had all done sterling work in preparation for the day, were all ready for an influx of visitors and they were not disappointed. An excellent number of people took the opportunity of visiting our Fete and at the end of the day the magnificent sum of £2700 had been raised for Church funds.

The XS Taekwondo Group from Cumbernauld put on a first rate display of martial arts which was warmly appreciated by those present and, not to be outdone, a great show of invention and originality was shown by youngsters in the Fancy Dress Parade. Hospital Radio, to whom we are again very grateful, provided the music. The barbecue stall was a great success, so much so that Evelyn Murray, rapidly running out of beef burgers, was heard pleading with people to take sausages! The tearoom did great business all afternoon and the ladies were all run off their feet trying to keep everyone fed.

So a big thank-you is due to all who helped in any way to make the day such a success, especially the Ladies' and Men's Groups who masterminded the entire event.
